Terms of Use

1. Who we are

Ten Thousand Businesses ("10TB", "we", "us") operates an online platform at app.10thousand.co.za that helps South African businesses find funding they may qualify for, reach corporate supply chains, connect with mentors and other members, and manage certain business records.

2. What we are, and what we are not

We are an information and matching platform. We do not decide funding applications. We do not lend money, grant money, or approve any application. Every funding decision is made by the funder, on their own criteria, and we have no part in it and no influence over it.

Specifically, we do not:

Guarantee that you will receive funding, or that any application will succeed;
Act as your financial adviser, accountant, attorney or tax practitioner;
Issue B-BBEE certificates or verify B-BBEE status. Only a SANAS-accredited verification agency may do that, and enterprises under R10 million turnover use a sworn affidavit;
Hold, transmit or distribute money between members;
Warrant that any other member, funder, mentor or supplier will perform as promised.

3. Information about funding programmes

We publish information about funding programmes gathered from funders' own published material. For each record we show what we believe the money to be, when we last checked it, and a link to the funder's own page.

Funding programmes change constantly. Windows open and close, criteria change, and money runs out. You must confirm every material fact on the funder's own website before you rely on it or spend money in reliance on it. We are not liable for a programme that has changed since we last checked it.

4. Your account

You must give accurate information and keep it current. Matching only works if what you tell us is true.
You are responsible for your password and for everything done under your account.
One account per person. Do not share access.
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to contract.

5. Fees

Registration, searching and preparing your business are free. You are asked to pay only at the point you apply to a funder, send a referral, or open your data room to someone outside the platform. Current prices are shown in the platform before you commit to anything.

Prices may change. We will tell you before a change affects you, and a change never applies retrospectively to something you have already paid for.

5A. The funding success fee

The business is never charged, and is not a party to this fee. Where a funder introduced through this platform advances money to a member, that funder pays Ten Thousand Businesses 2.5% of the amount actually disbursed, under a separate written agreement between the funder and us. It is invoiced to the funder after disbursement. It is not deducted from the member's funding, and whatever the funder approves is what reaches the member's account.

No success fee is payable on grants, government incentive programmes, or any non-repayable award. Those are excluded entirely.

Ten Thousand Businesses does not receive, hold or transmit any funding. All money passes directly between the funder and the business.

6. Member-to-member referrals

Where one member refers work to another, the platform generates a written agreement between those two members. That agreement is between them. 10TB is not a party to it, does not receive or hold the money, and does not guarantee that either party will perform. We charge no platform fee on member-to-member referrals — the referral share is entirely between the two members, and sending referrals is included in membership.

7. Supplier certification

We verify supplier capability. We do not certify B-BBEE status. A 10TB supplier certificate states what we checked and at what depth. It is not a B-BBEE certificate and does not replace one. Any B-BBEE information we display is recorded exactly as the supplier supplied it and has not been verified by us.

8. Content you provide

You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give us permission to store it and to show it to the people you have chosen to show it to — for example, a funder you ask us to introduce you to. We will not share your business information with a funder, corporate or other member without your instruction or consent.

9. Acceptable use

You may not use the platform to: mislead anyone about your business; upload documents that are not yours or are falsified; harvest other members' details; send unsolicited marketing to members; or attempt to gain access to information that is not yours.

10. Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently, or that puts other members at risk. Where it is safe and lawful to do so we will tell you why.

11. Liability

We provide the platform in good faith and take real care with the information on it. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for a funding decision made by a third party. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified in the platform. Continuing to use it after that means you accept the updated terms.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
